Here are some simple steps to begin overcoming your fears:
Decide - Make a decision that you want to be successful. Whatever success means to you. Maybe it is that you want to raise more money in your business or that you want to become a better communicator or leader in business. Whatever it is, decide and commit to achieving what you want! The choice is always yours. When you started your business, you made a decision and committed to getting things off the ground. You decided on the name for your business, the location, the product, the services, etc. In the same way, you must again make a clear and definite decision to achieve success in business and live the life you want to live. Make a decision. Fail Up - (Title of Tavis Smiley’s latest book). Adjust your mindset about failing. As a basketball fanatic, I have devoured books and quotes from one of the best who ever played the game, Mr. Michael Jordan. We recognize him for the success he has achieved as a basketball player and businessman and would probably ask him how he did it if we met him face-to-face. The cold hard truth about success is that if you want to grow and succeed you will have to be willing to fail. Sure, no one wants to fail but to be successful at something new, we will most likely experience setbacks and obstacles along the way. Start seeing your failures as stepping-stones, as valuable information along the way that you can use to accelerate your success by doing more of what works and eliminating what doesn’t. Resolve that when you experience failure, you will get up and dust yourself off and try again (I believe those are the lyrics to a song… but it works!) with new information about how to amend your strategy. Be a Doer – Take action! Take action! Take action! Don’t wait for things to be perfect. There is always going to be something that isn’t quite right. People are not spending as much money; I have way too much on my plate this week; there are too many businesses similar to mine. There is always going to be something so just do it and adjust as you go along. Practice doing things rather than just thinking about doing them. Start today! Do at least one thing that you know you should be doing in your business that you have been thinking about foreverrrrr and do it! The longer an idea sits in your head, the weaker it becomes. There is a lot to be said about momentum. Action is the best cure for fear. The most difficult time to take action is the first time, once you get the ball rolling you will begin to build up your confidence. Shake off that fear; don’t think about the outcome, this might lead to you over thinking it. Just go for it. Overcome fear by taking action and build on that confidence. You can always tweak the process moving forward and you will in the meanwhile facing and conquering your fear. “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. “– Franklin D.
