Northwestern Mutual commissioned its Elements of Success Study to find out by what factors women define their success. This online study, conducted by Harris Interactive, was conducted as a random and accordingly proportional sample of 1,513 U.S. adults (796 of which were the naturally occurring women from whom the results came).
From this sample, very interesting results emerged. Out of a list of 25 factors (including career, relationships, family, and finances), the three most popular factors of success are: "being happy" (84%), "having enough money to pay the bills" (79%), and "being healthy" (79%). Most women (82%) felt like they were at least as successful as their parents and relatively successful compared to others; however, upon introspection, many women felt like they did not meet their personal goals. For example, even though "having enough money to pay the bills" was what 79% of the women attributed to success, only 45% of the women believed they did not meet their financial goal.
