How To PowerUp Your Blog By Adding A Vlog

Powerup your blog with videos
Want to increase the popularity of your blog, gain more visitors and strengthen your relationship and authority with your existing fans?

One of the most effective ways to do all these things is to add video to your site.

Not only is video highly engaging and difficult to look away from, it’s also highly persuasive and very personal. For building a ‘personal brand’ in particular, this is one of the very best ways to let your visitors get to know you.

Creating Your Vlog

The best way to create a vlog is by creating a YouTube channel, which you can brand to complement your site. YouTube lets you upload videos which you can then easily share on social media and embed into your content.

Next, let's talk about creating your videos. To do this, all you need is a camera (your phone camera is likely good enough if it can record in 1080p) and you’ll need a topic.

When it comes to topics for your videos, you can actually create videos by repurposing versions of your most popular articles. You can even just read them out! You can then either upload your footage ‘unedited’ or you can upload it after making it look more professional with software like Adobe Illustrator or the free Movie Maker.

Tips for Creating Great Looking Video

Too shy to step in front of the camera right now? Keep in mind then that you can easily create content for your videos using PowerPoint presentations, or animated ‘whiteboard’ software.

Alternatively, if you’re going to film yourself talking, take some time to look at other popular videos in your niche to see how they do it.

Here are some universal truths that will help you to be a success are:
  • Think about lighting and ideally try to be lit from the side. This is called ‘Rembrandt lighting’.
  • Consider your audio â€“ filming with a mic is the best option if possible.
  • Dress smart but don’t look like you’re trying too hard.
  • When reading, pause between each sentence. You can also just speak naturally which will come across as friendlier and less staged.
  • Think about your background and try to set up a corner of a room that will look professional. You can even try hanging a poster with your logo on it for added bonus points! A clean wall will also do.

Now that you are ready to incorporate a vlog into your blog, come up with a posting schedule that works for you. Consider posting a few videos regularly, once or twice weekly and upload them as articles on your site. You’ll find that it adds more to the site and brings in lots of new fans!

Adding video is something I want to work on soon. Now that my boys are both in school full-time, I have more opportunity without them running around like crazy people in my videos.

A vlog is a great idea or just more videos, people love them! I still find it difficult though!

I have tried in the past to vlog and it is definitely not my thing. But more power to those that can. It's a unique skill to make day to day interesting.

Great tips, I would love to try vlogging but find it hard with a baby, toddler and dog all making a commotion in the background!

I've recently launched a vlog of sorts to accompany my travel blog, and I'm loving that extra layer of creativity that I get to work with! I would also recommend it. :-)

I have been considering starting a Vlog to add to my Blog but have not made that plunge yet. For some reason pictures don't bother me but a video scares me. I know I need to get past that, just haven't figured it out yet, LOL

Vlogs are great too. They have a different appeal to people. Some just want to read whenever they can while some love to watch vlogs are lively and full of sense.
