I recently read a story of a man who had created a product and had to shelf it because the company he had created it for went out of business. A year and a half later another company he had worked with prior attempted to create the product on their own and failed; they reached out to him to purchase the rights to his product. Two deal-killer clauses glared out of the contract and the would-be buyer’s lawyer was not budging. The man mentioned that he tried to think of and see the deal with a positive outcome rather than see the problems in their way. He said he also knew the contract wouldn’t work for him with those two clauses in it, so he let go of any attachment to the outcome and rang the person he had been dealing with directly, instead of talking to the lawyer. He said he told him what he wanted, and that he really was happy for the deal not to go ahead otherwise. Result? The man got the deal he wanted and he also gave them more in return by writing a complete instructional manual that they could also use with the product. One of the interesting things about the story is that the man also mentioned that he has always been a grateful person; he expresses gratitude every day, even before this deal happened!
Not so long ago I met a man with whom I had a long conversation about the economy and how he perceived it has affected his business. Trying to keep things light and positive I commented that their company had been around for many years and that his father had done a nice job with the business. He agreed and I suggested that things would pick up and that his dad was probably off enjoying life now that he had passed it on to him. He said “oh no, dad is working still!” He went on to mention that his dad was somewhat bitter that he had to be working still at his age and that his father was not a very pleasant man. Again, trying to keep it light, I just smiled. He said ‘really, he is not pleasant” I quickly changed the subject with nowhere to go with that comment. What came to mind though was this question: Does thinking in a certain way affect your success? It has been said that Gratitude can guide you to a more fulfilling and complete experience in all areas of your life. It is a practice that I have embraced through writing, through choosing deliberate thoughts of gratitude and also as posts on my website. {Gratitude} Knowing the Love of God in my Life --->>>Advancing! Expressing Gratitude makes me feel good; actually it makes me feel great! How about you? What are your thoughts on the subject of Gratitude and Success?
